Nexus Eazy 310 Koi Pond Filter

The Nexus 310 is a cleverly combined mechanical and biological filter creating an effective, high performance filtration system for all sizes of pond. It has and continues to revolutionise the way ponds are filtered. The Nexus combined with the New Eazy, means there really is no competition regarding price and what it will achieve.

The Nexus 310 has been significantly improved over it's superb predicessor, the Eazy chamber (located in the centre of the filter) has been completely redesigned from the bottom up. The chamber basket is now larger which enables a greater flow of water through the media and the introduction of a clear lid which seals the media within the basket ensures that the correct amount of media remains in the chamber to deal with the mechanical filtration at all times. By stopping the K1 media from overflowing into the next chamber, this ensures that the correct amount of media is present at all times which improves the mechanical filtration resulting in even better water quality.

In addition to improvements made to the Eazy chamber basket the new Nexus 210 has also been imroved by the introduction of a bypass and overflow system incorporated into it's design which enables the owner to take the well deserved holiday and not have to worry about the filter overflowing or indeed starving the pump of water resulting in damage to the pump. Thre cross section image clearly displays these new features.

As mentioned above, the All New Eazy, that is the solids removal chamber, has been redesigned from the bottom up. It is bigger, allowing for better flow of water through the static K1.

This means that the Nexus removes more of the suspended solids, and is even better at producing the clarity demanded by the koi keeper.

The one way valve that is now attached to the outlet of the Eazy, has made cleaning easier, taking away the need to have the black pipe bung as in previous models. The improved water flow also means more efficient cleaning of the Static K1. The  Eazy is now covered by a clear lid, this ensures that the precise amount of K1 media is always present with the Eazy chamber, and none can escape.

If the Nexus owner had to make any compromise in the past, it was that in times of heavy feeding, or perhaps if blanket weed was being removed, then the Eazy could fill up with debris, and water could overflow the filter, or potentially starve the pump.

In pump fed operation, the Nexus has an Overflow and in gravity fed operation, a Bypass, which mean that if you need to leave the filter for longer than you normally would in between cleaning then the water can now bypass or overflow out of the filter and back into your pond. The filter will continue to work as normal, but the excess water will bypass/overflow back into the pond.

How the Nexus 310 Works

The Nexus filter is simple yet innovative. Water enters the Nexus via the inlet and first passes through the into the inner chamber which works as a basic vortex allowing larger solids to settle out. The water then passes through the Eazy where the finer particles are removed and the first step in the biological treatment takes place. From the Eazy the water passes into the outer chamber where the remainder of the biological treatment takes place using the Kaldnes Moving Bed Process. The water then passes through the grill into the Exit Chamber where it is returned to the pond through the outlet. Waste is discharged through the larger Ball valve sited at the bottom of the filter. The Eazy is cleaned by diverting the air from the Outside chamber to the Eazy using the air valves.

The Nexus Eazy :

The Eazy is a stainless steel vessel containing a set volume of static K1 media (30L for Nexus 210) which is located within the centre chamber of the Nexus. After water enters the Nexus it rotates around the Eazy in the centre chamber with a downward motion allowing the larger solids to settle to the bottom of the chamber before passing through the slots of the Eazy into the static K1 media. The water flows upwards through the K1 media where mechanical filtration takes place as any small particles are caught within the K1 media. The water then flows through the slots in the centre column and into the outer chamber.

The Nexus Eazy Outer Chamber:

The outer chamber of the Nexus contains the Kaldnes Moving Bed Process. This is where the final stage of biological treatment occurs. Biological breakdown occurs through different strains of bacteria living on the K1 media. These bacteria convert Ammonia and Nitrite into harmless Nitrate. The amount of Ammonia and Nitrite produced in the pond is dependant on feed rates and the type of food. For higher feed rates additional K1 media should be added into the outer chamber (250g/day of average protein content food will be broken down by 50L of K1).
