 Red Devil II Titanium Pumps

The low power consumption used by these Red Devil pumps, and the performace they achieve has simply not been matched by other pump manufacturers. By their design, the low power consuption in conjunction with the pumps unique charecteristices is the way the Red Devil range of pumps saves energy, your environment and especially your money.
There are two versions of the Red Devil. The Red Devil I (not controlable/AC) and the Red Devil II (Adjustable/DC). The Red Devil pump is the first really energy saving pump which does not use a traditionally designed electro-motor which are known for their sober output. In addition, the so called “Eco”-pumps, only save energy as a result of the size down of the head of water. The real gain is still not high enough.
Applications Brushless DC Pump
The Red Devil pumps are perfectly suitable for every possible application in which you have to transport water with or without a head of water like waterfalls, multi-chamber filters, BubbleBeads or any other kind of beadfilters. The Red Devil range of pumps prove to be a great alternative for pressure pumps which often consume double the energy and costing twice as much to run. The Red Devil series of pumps use achieve this result by using a magnet motor for the Red Devil I and a Brushless DC motor for the Red Devil II.
Brushless DC Motor Technology
The latest innovation is the Red Devil II, this is a series of pumps using the latest technology available consisting of a sinussteered signe wave Brushless DC motor. That sounds very difficult but in leymans terms, this is a motor that uses the latest technology available to reach a motor efficiency of 94.6%. This technology ensures that these pumps are highly efficient and offer the very best in performance.
Due to the technique of an Brushless DC motor, it is possible to steer your motor on base of the rotations of the motor. A Brushless DC motor is a direct voltage motor which obtains it's power from an external electronic Variable Controller . This electronic controller unit converts the alternaing current into direct voltage to power the pump. This afords the Red Devil II pumps the unique feature of being able to be fully adjusted between 10% and 100% of the pumps sized capacity. The use of the power input of the motor is directly related to the water output and as a result they are both parallel in this way. When you set the variable controller to use only 50% of the total power available the motor only takes 50% of this power as input to the pump. This is only possible with a DC motor, it is impossible to achieve this with an AC motor.
Development since 2004
The process of developing began in 2004, where the foundation for a motor with a Brushless DC drive concept began. The first prototypes worked on a 48V direct voltage supply. This made it possible to use the pump in applications where low voltage was required as submersible pump in swimming pools, and ponds. The big disadvantage with the 48V motor is mostly visible when you need a large amount of power, because on a low voltage applications the electricity supply needs to be much bigger. This is a problem because you would require a very big cable to deliver the supply. Because these pumps were designed to run with a higher voltage, it was then possible to run these pumps using the more traditional thinner cable.
Another big advantage of a Brushless DC motor is the way in which the electronics are processed. Pumps which can be used under water mostly have the electronics with the motor submerged. When there are some problems with the electronics the whole motor has to be replaced. The Red Devil II electronics are housed a separate commander console. This mean that the electronics can be replaced with out the need to replace the whole pump.
Energy savings with brushless DC
The Brushless DC motors have an efficiency over 90%, while normal electrical motors have an efficiency of approximately 45-50%, this extra efficiency can be translated into direct running cost savings as a result of the enormous energy saving.
Dry or Submersible use
Between that, the motor is also better to use in dry installations. This is because of the little heath production of the pump. Many pumps, which are used in dry installation, have big fans (noisy) and can’t stand water. Many pumps which are normally used in a wet installations (submersible) but which are also used in dry installations, becoming very hot in a dry installation. This makes the lifetime of the pump much shorter. In addition, many pumps begin to produce more sound when the bearings begin to get worn (mostly carbon bearings) with the silicium carbide bearings the Red Devils are even after years of use whisper silent!
Quality control
For quality control and optimalising of the efficiency technical high estimated equipment is used. For definitive inspection of the pumps a very exact testbench is used. Only by constant testing it is possible to reach an high standard. These Red Devil pumps are constantly being tested on characteristics like water output and energy consumption.
